Anne Albrecht Kindergarten Lead Teacher
Ms. Albrecht has been a Kindergarten teacher at LPBS since 2008 and also served as the Summer Academy Director for 2011. She is an alumna of Teach for America, a nationwide teacher corps that recruits and trains outstanding college graduates to teach in public schools. Her prior experiences include serving as the Teach for America Campus Campaign Coordinator in Madison, Wisconsin where she worked to produce a record-setting recruitment drive, and teaching English to Chinese students in Shanghai, China. Ms. Albrecht received her B.A. in Communication Arts with honors and a Certificate in Business from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She also recently received her M.S. in Early Childhood Education with honors from Hunter College.
Victoria Allison Kindergarten Teacher
Victoria Allison is a native Brooklynite. She is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, and received the Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowship. She received her B.A. from Wellesley College where she majored in Sociology and minored in Education Studies. Her passion for urban education began while at Wellesley and she interned at the New York Department of Education where she helped develop the Social Studies curriculum for fourth and seventh graders, and the following year she conducted research at the Urban Institute on how teacher expectations affect student achievement. Ms. Allison is excited to join the LPBS team!
Sabina Bharwani 4th Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Bharwani is a first year corps member in Teach For America, having recently graduated with an MPP from the Kennedy School at Harvard University. She was the founder of the Urban Education Policy group while at Harvard, and was a Fulbright scholar in the BC Ministry of Education. She received her BA in Economic Analysis and Policy Studies from Rice University where she won a Presidential Scholarship. Recently, she has been assisting her grandmother with her autobiography and in her free time she enjoys improv.
Nikki Bowen 2nd Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Bowen was a 2008 Teach for America corps member. Previously, she founded the Princeton Inmate Outreach Project to help inmates acquire basic educational skills necessary for their reintegration into society once released. She has a strong interest in prison reform and alternatives to incarceration and wrote her senior thesis titled A Mother’s Hope: An Ethnography of a Mother Supporting her Incarcerated Son. Ms. Bowen received her B.A. in Anthropology with a Certificate in African-American Studies from Princeton University.
Rachel Chapman Kindergarten Lead Teacher
Ms. Chapman is a graduate of Teach for America. Prior to joining Leadership Prep, Ms. Chapman tutored over 20 students in math and science and led writing projects with America Reads in New York, New York. Ms. Chapman received her Bachelor of Arts in History from New York University where she was a Presidential Scholar.
Kathleen Clinchy 5th/6th Grade Reading Teacher
A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Kathleen started teaching in 2008 as a Teach For America New York City corps member. She taught 5th grade general education at C.S. 211, The Bilingual School, in The Bronx, New York for two years. Kathleen is returning for her second year at Leadership Preparatory Bedford Stuyvesant. She has been a founding teacher in grades five and six, last year teaching both Reading and Writing classes. Kathleen will teach fifth and sixth grade Reading to the most energetic and curious students in Brooklyn.
Daniel Cosgrove Middle Academy Dean of Students
A graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, Dan started teaching in 2008 as a Teach For America New York City corps member. Dan is returning for his fourth year at Leadership Preparatory Bedford Stuyvesant. He has been a founding teacher in grades three through five. Dan will teach fifth grade history and serve as the Dean of Students.
Michaela Daniel Middle Academy Director of Operations
Ms. Daniel joins Uncommon Schools after receiving her M.B.A from the Yale School of Management. In 2009, Ms. Daniel served as a Summer Associate for the White House Domestic Policy Council's education policy team. Before business school, Ms. Daniel served as the Director of High School Programming and Placement for Breakthrough New York, where she developed and implemented a high school placement strategy and created systems for admissions counseling, family involvement, and partnerships with admissions officers. Ms. Daniel is also proud to have been a 6th and 8th Grade English teacher and Assistant High School Admissions Advisor at M.S. 118 in the Bronx, New York for three years. A 2003 graduate of Harvard University, Ms. Daniel is excited to work with Leadership Prep students and families.
Samantha DeLuke 3rd Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. DeLuke is a Teach for America alum and is in her third year of teaching. Prior to joining Leadership Prep she held various supervisory and corporate training positions with corporations such as Uno Restaurant Corporation and Adecco North America. Ms. DeLuke earned her Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting & Mass Communication cum laude from the State University of New York at Oswego.
Carolyn DiProspero Kindergarten Teacher
A New Jersey native, Ms. DiProspero joins Leadership Prep after completing her Master's degree in Elementary Education at The College of William and Mary in Virginia. While completing her program, she taught for a year in a fifth grade classroom at Stonehouse Elementary School in Williamsburg, Virginia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from William and Mary in History and Government. While at William and Mary, Ms. DiProspero worked in the admissions office as a tour guide.
Alexander Donovan 5th Grade Math Teacher
Mr. Donovan attended The George Washington University in Washington, DC. After graduating in 2008 he moved to New York City to work as a paralegal at Paul Weiss, a major corporate law firm. Excited by the idea of social change through education he joined Teach For America in 2009 and taught 6th grade math for two years in Houston, Texas. Mr. Donovan joined Uncommon Schools in 2011 as a 5th grade math teacher at Leadership Prep Bed Stuy’s Middle Academy.
Daniel Gennaoui Elementary Academy Director of Operations
Mr. Gennaoui joins Leadership Prep Bedford Stuyvesant after receiving his MBA from Columbia Business School. In 2010, he worked with Uncommon Schools to assess and analyze teacher attrition rates. Prior to business school, Mr. Gennaoui taught 6th grade with Teach for America in the South Bronx from 2004-2007. He additionally has taught 7th grade at Lafayette Academy Charter School in New Orleans from 2007-2009. He holds an M.A. from Bank Street College of Education and a B.S. from Cornell University. Mr. Gennaoui grew up in Brooklyn, NY and is excited to be joining the excellent team at LPBS.
Casey Gilbert 1st Grade Teacher
Ms. Gilbert grew up outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and comes to Leadership Prep with her BS in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While there, she had the opportunity to student teach in K-4 classrooms. She has a minor degree in English-Language Arts. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Education at the Relay School of Education.
Edwin Gonzalez 3rd Grade Lead Teacher
Mr. Gonzalez is a first year TFA corps member who graduated from UCSD with a degree in Literatures in English. While at UCSD, he was the Features Editor of the UCSD Guardian. In addition, he was an intern at the City Council of National City where he promoted community outreach programs – encouraging elementary students to increase their reading over the summer.
Paul Hanlon Special Projects Coordinator
Before joining Leadership Prep, Mr. Hanlon studied at the University of Redlands in Southern California, where he received a BA in Education and Arts. While at the University of Redlands, Mr. Hanlon worked in the admissions office. He also worked in management and leadership roles for a YWCA summer camp on the Oregon Coast.
Nicholas Herrmann 5th & 6th Grade Science Teacher
A graduate Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, Mr. Herrmann earned a degree in environmental science. While at Brown, he conducted research on nature and wildlife conservation, performed music as a vocalist and tuba player, and developed a strong passion for teaching. As a founding teacher at the Leadership Prep Middle Academy, Mr. Herrmann taught 5th grade science and guided reading, coached the girls’ basketball team, and organized the Odyssey of the Mind afterschool enrichment program. Mr. Herrmann is thrilled to be entering his second year with the Middle Academy.
Emily Hoefling-Crouch 3rd Grade Lead Teacher
Emily Hoefling Crouch is a teacher and instructional coach for the third grade team. She also serves as the reading and writing curriculum planner for grades two, three, and four. Emily joined Leadership Prep Bed-Stuy in 2007 through Teach for America. Emily is an instructor at the Relay Graduate School of Education where she teaches on the Elementary Content Team. Emily holds a B.A. in Religion from Indiana University and an M.S.T. in Childhood Education from Pace University.
Brook Jackling Kindergarten Teacher
Ms. Jackling is a 2010 Teach For America corps member from Dartmouth College. While at Dartmouth, she studied Art History and directed TFA’s campus outreach as a Campus Campaign Manager. In the spring of 2009, she studied abroad in Rome. She was also a co-chair and volunteer for Book Buddies. This program assisted local elementary school studies struggling with reading.
Gibran Jourdain-Earl 3rd Grade Lead Teacher
Mr. Jourdain-Earl is a recent graduate of Morehouse College. While at Morehouse, he served as a student representative to the Morehouse College Leadership Center Advisory Board and as the project manager of the ARCHF HIV/AIDS Awareness Program. He also worked with the Oprah South Africa Leadership Project in Johannesburg, South Africa. Mr. Jourdain-Earl has taught in Leadership Prep’s Summer Academy for the past two years and has completed internships with College Summit and Time Warner. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Morehouse College and is participating in Teacher University.
Bentley Kapten Apprentice Teacher
Mr. Kapten is a recent graduate of Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, he spent most of his time working as a corps member with Jumpstart for Young Children, and by being a “Big brother” with Big Brother’s & Big Sister’s in Lubbock, Texas. In the spring of 2010, he helped charter the first chapter of “The Collegiate 100” in Texas. Mr. Kapten served as the chartering secretary for this auxiliary organization to the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. Mr. Kapten recently just taught at Leadership Prep’s Summer Academy this past summer. He holds a B.S. in Biology from Texas Tech University and is studying at the Relay Graduate School of Education.
John E. King Learning Specialist
Mr. King began his time at Leadership Prep by teaching first grade in 2007. He has since become a Learning Specialist on the Learning Support Team. Mr. King primarily works with Grades 2-4 and his intervention instruction focuses on literacy. In addition, Mr. King coordinates assessment throughout the building and is the director of the Leadership Prep Saturday Academy, called SMART Camp. Prior to his time at Leadership Prep Mr. King taught 7th and 3rd grades with Teach For America in Phoenix, Arizona. He holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s in Education from Arizona State University.
Allison Kosty 1st Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Kosty is a second-year corps member with Teach for America, a nationwide teacher corps that recruits and trains outstanding college graduates to serve in public schools. Prior to joining TFA, she served as an elementary and high school tutor with Homework Helpers in Los Angeles, CA. During college, she participated in a study abroad program in Athens, Greece. Ms. Kosty holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Southern California.
Lauren Krevet 1st Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Krevet joined Leadership Prep after serving for two years in Teach for America as a 1st grade teacher at PS 230 in the Bronx, NY. During her time with PS 230 Ms. Krevet served on the Data Inquiry Team, analyzing English language learner student data to develop strategies to best address and serve students’ needs. Ms. Krevet has also worked as a home-based therapist and research assistant in the University of Maryland Psychology Department. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Erin Larkin Director of Staff Development
Ms. Larkin has had previous teaching experience with third and fourth grade students at P.S. 206M Jose Celso Barbosa Elementary School in New York City. She has also mentored teachers-in-training at the Hunter College Learning Lab. While at Hunter, Ms. Larkin tutored kindergarteners with ADHD, creating and implementing special behavior plans and teaching methods. Ms. Larkin holds an M.A. in Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities from Hunter College and a B.A in sociology from Wesleyan University.
Meaghan Larsson 4th Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Larsson comes to Leadership Prep from NYC DOE, where she has taught 2nd and 3rd grade since 2006. She received her Masters from Pace University, where she attended after graduating from Loyola College in Maryland. She has served as a Content Specialist and a Corps Member Advisor with Teach For America. Upon graduating from college, she designed an ESL program for intermediate students at Assumption University in Bangkok.
Ilana Leibowitz 1st Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Lebowitz is a first year Teach For America corps member who most recently worked as a lawyer for Sidley Austin in New York. She graduated from Pace University School of Law after attending Rutgers University, where she studied art history. After being a lawyer, Ms. Lebowitz decided to study English Adolescent Education at the Brooklyn College School of Education. In her free time, she is an avid museums and parks visitor.
Owen Losse Middle Academy Principal
Mr. Losse has served as the 7th grade team leader and math teacher at Harlem Village Academy Middle School in New York, NY. Prior to joining Harlem Village Academy, Mr. Losse was a Teach for America Math Content Specialist, supervising the development of first-year Teach for America corps members, and served as a corps member himself at MS 390 in the Bronx, NY as a 5th through 8th grade Math Teacher. Before receiving his Master of Science in Teaching and Adolescent Education from Pace University, Mr. Losse was a Dean’s Scholar at Lewis & Clark College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics.
Rita Maddux Learning Support Coordinator
Ms. Maddux joins Leadership Prep after years of experience teaching third-fifth grade students in California and North Carolina. Ms. Maddux was “Teacher of The Year” at her former school and received the “Educator Making a Difference” community award in 2009. In addition, she has administered after school and summer programs focusing on reading and its connection to writing for struggling students and creative writing and story elements. Ms. Maddux has her BA from Appalachian State University and a Masters of Education in Special Education from East Carolina University.
Jeyla Mammadova Office Manager
Ms. Mammadova is a 2007 graduate of James Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY as well as an alumna of class of 2011 of Dickinson College where she majored in Women’s and Gender Studies and received a Health Studies Certificate. Ms.Mammadova was also a Posse Scholar, earning a full-tuition leadership scholarship for all four years of college. Throughout college, she was active in community service, serving as a coordinator of Dickinson C.A.R.E.S., a tutoring program for elementary aged children who are recent immigrants to the United States. She continued working with America Reads and served as a Hearing Officer on the Academic Standards and Conduct Panel.
Ashley Mathis Office Manager
Ms. Mathis grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn and graduated from New York City Technical College with a degree in Legal Studies. She has worked all across New York City, most recently as a child care provider at the Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA. She is excited to be on the LPBS team and to work with students and families.
Paulene Meyers 1st Grade Teacher
Ms. Meyers was recently an intern with Race to the Top in the US Department of Education. She graduated from Stanford in June 2010, with a BA in Political Science. While at Stanford, Ms. Meyers studied abroad in New Zealand and was the Program Coordinator for East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring. Ms. Meyers also has worked as a Civil Rights Intern in the Attorney General’s office in New York.
Staci Meyr 2nd Grade Teacher
Ms. Meyr is a first year corps Member with Teach for America. Before joining Leadership Prep, she studied Art Education at Arizona State University. In 2007, Ms. Meyr helped initiate and manage an after school program in Phoenix, Arizona. She also worked in partnership with Hope For Uganda, teaching workshops to children in Kampala during the summer of 2009. Ms. Meyr is a recent graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design with her Masters of Fine Arts.
Belton-Martell Mickle 2nd Grade Teacher
Mr. Mickle comes to Leadership Prep with a wealth of experience in the magazine industry. Most recently, he worked in marketing at Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and for Trace Magazine. He has he MA in Journalism and Mass Communications from NYU and a BA in English Literature from Morehouse College.
Eugene Newsome Learning Support Teacher
Mr. Newsome graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Child and Family Studies. While at Syracuse, he played Varsity football. Most recently, he worked as a Special Education teacher at Stroudsburg High School in Pennsylvania. He has also worked as a Behavioral Therapist at Community Counseling Services.
Joy Newton Elementary Academy Music Teacher
Joy Newton graduated from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College with a BA in Music Education, with a focus on classical clarinet. She received her MA in Early Education from Teacher U at Hunter College. She has taught early childhood and elementary music, and woodwinds as both a teaching artist and full time music teacher for over ten years in New York City public and charter schools, day care centers, and private organizations.
Sultana Noormuhammad Elementary Academy Principal
Ms. Noormuhammad previously served as Leadership Prep’s Dean of Students. Before joining the Leadership Prep faculty as Founding Lead Teacher, Ms. Noormuhammad was a first grade teacher at C.S. 50 The Clara Barton School in New York City through Teach For America. She served as Program Coordinator for Global Learning in Liberia and Costa Rica. Her role included arranging the teaching schedules in four elementary schools comprising one-thousand students and conducting daily meetings in both English and Spanish. Ms. Noormuhammad holds a B.A. in International Relations from Wellesley College and has studied at Casa de las Americas in Havana Cuba.
Katelin O’Hare 3rd- 6th Grade Art Teacher
Ms. O’Hare recently received her M.A.T in Visual Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York, while there she was awarded the Paula Rhodes Medallion. Prior to this she was an assistant buyer for Urban Outfitters Inc. in Philadelphia PA. While living in Philadelphia she was an after school tutor at The Drueding Center. Ms. O’Hare received a B.F.A. in Photography from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.
Annie Olsen-Meehan School Social Worker
Ms. Olsen-Meehan, LCSW, is the Social Worker at Leadership Prep Charter School. Before joining the Leadership Prep community, Ms. Olsen-Meehan was an Outpatient Mental Health Therapist at the Wyandot Mental Health Center in Kansas City, KS. At Wyandot, Ms. Olsen-Meehan had many responsibilities including assessment, diagnosis and individual/group treatment for clients 5-18 years old. She also worked as the House Manager for KEYS Youth Services, residential group home that provides a safe, structured, learning environment for youth who are unable to succeed within their home communities. As House Manager, Ms. Olsen-Meehan supervised a team of 8 and provided monthly treatment plans for the individuals involved in a given youth’s case. She earned both her B.A. and her M.A. in Social Welfare from the University of Kansas and currently holds a Clinical license in NY.
Andrea Palmer Kindergarten Lead Teacher
Ms. Palmer is a 2008 corps member in Teach for America. Her prior experience includes serving as a Teach For America Campus Campaign Coordinator, as Director of the Tucker Foundation Book Buddies program in Hanover, NH, and as a Summer Learning Fellow with the Partnership for After-School Education in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to holding a variety of leadership positions as an undergraduate, Ms. Palmer studied abroad in both New Zealand and France. Ms. Palmer received her B.A. in Linguistics with a minor in Art History from Dartmouth College.
Amy Parsons Dean of Curriculum and Instruction
Amy was born and raised outside Boston, MA and has spent the past decade working in public education in Boston. She attended Saint Michael's College in Vermont, earning degrees in English Literature and Political Science. Following graduation, she spent two years as a member of AmeriCorps NCCC, completing service projects all over the east and west coasts, including a literacy tutoring project with DC public schools that inspired her to embark on a career in urban education. She spent four years working for Citizen Schools Boston, as a Teaching Fellow earning a Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University, and then as a founding Campus Director. Most recently, Amy has spent five years at Roxbury Preparatory Charter School, teaching 7th grade Reading and coordinating the 7th grade Team. Her students' academic growth in reading earned her a Spotlight Teacher award from New Leaders for New Schools. She is thrilled to continue working for Uncommon Schools, having moved from Uncommon Boston to Uncommon New York City.
Margaret Pickering 3rd Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Pickering is a 2010 Teach For America corps member. She graduated from Clark University with a BA in Screen Studies and Studio Art. She has her MA from NYU in Visual Culture and Theory. She worked as a classroom assistant and mentor at the Educational Alliance in NYC, and as an editorial intern for New York Magazine. She has had her art exhibited in both New York and Rhode Island.
Heather Pirolli 4th Grade Teacher
Ms. Pirolli is joining LPBS after teaching in Boston for four years. She received her M.A. in Elementary Education from Boston College, where she was a member of the Donovan Urban Teaching Scholars Program. Ms. Pirolli earned her B.A. from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was an active volunteer in the public schools and Tulane sponsored tutoring programs.
Annie Reinish Elementary Academy Dean of Students
A graduate of Amherst College and Harvard's Graduate School of Education, Ms. Reinish brings a wealth of experience to her role as Dean of Students. She was a founding teacher at the Bronx Charter School for Excellence and also served as a Kindergarten Lead Teacher and member of the school leadership team there. In addition, Ms. Reinish was a First Grade Lead Teacher at PS 57 in East Harlem and a Camp Administrator for the Fresh Air Fund. In her free time, Ms. Reinish can be found in Central Park or at Yankee Stadium.
Lauren Rosner-Ferguson K-2nd Grade Art Teacher
Ms. Ferguson returns to Leadership Prep as a full-time art teacher after completing her student teaching here last spring. She is a recent graduate of Pratt Institute, where she received her MFA. She completed her BA at SUNY Purchase, with a concentration in printmaking. Before starting her full time career at Leadership Prep, she worked with the Pratt Institute’s Teaching in Gallery’s Program.
Aida Sadr-Kiani 3rd Grade Teacher
Ms. Sadr-Kiani is a recent graduate of Columbia University, where she majored in Economics and History. Last summer she designed and taught a fifth grade course in Pre-Columbian History of Native America at Breakthrough San Francisco, a nationwide collaborative aimed at putting high achieving low-income students on the path to college, while simultaneously inspiring college students to pursue careers in education. Her other experiences in education include developing a leadership curriculum at a camp for Iranian-American high school students through a non-profit called Iranian-Alliances Across Borders. Outside of education, she was lucky enough to enjoy working at WNYC’s Leonard Lopate Show for two years during college.
Aidan Thomas 6th Grade Math Teacher
Brooklyn born and bred, Mr. Thomas attended Colgate University in Hamilton, New York where he majored in Japanese and Film Studies. In 2009, after two years working in film and advertising, Mr. Thomas began teaching for Citizen Schools at Isaac Newton Middle School. At Isaac Newton, he taught math, commercial production, and screen printing.
Sara Turilli Performing Arts Teacher
Sara Turilli is very excited to join the Leadership Prep community as a performing arts teacher. Mrs. Turilli just recently completed her Masters in Music Education from New York University. She also holds a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Musical Theater from Catholic University of America, and a theater certification from The London Dramatic Academy (London, England). Prior to teaching at Leadership, Mrs. Turilli taught music and musical theater in various schools throughout the New York area, including: The Marymount School, PS212, and most recently RELC MS113 in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Mrs. Turilli’s love of music, theater and dance began when she was a little girl and took her from Delaware to New York to pursue her passion. There, she toured in the original cast of “Fishface: The Musical;” “Grease: You’re the One That I Want;” and had brief stints on “30 Rock” and an All-State commercial. Mrs. Turilli looks forward to sharing her love of music and theater with the scholars at LPBS.
Rachel Valentin-Gaboton 2nd Grade Lead Teacher
Mrs. Valentin graduated from Brooklyn College with an M.A. in Urban Policy and Public administration and a B.A. in History from Spelman College. While at Spelman she volunteered with G.M.A.A.C, an afterschool tutoring program for refugee students in Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Valentin’s professional experience began at JPMorgan Chase where she spent 4 years managing projects and developing credit & banking products with the Investment Bank and Asset Management. In 2009, she served as a political intern on the New Yorker’s for Thompson Campaign. She was a mentor with iMentor NY and is currently a mentor with Brown Memorial Church Youth and Young Adults program.
Suzanne Vera Director of Arts
Suzanne Vera is a founding staff member of Leadership Prep. She has taught art, drama, reading, and will be founding the LPBS performing arts program this year. She has planned and developed the school’s weekly Creed Circle, After School program, as well as school field trips. She is the coordinator of LPEX professional development in the arts, providing workshops for teachers across 5 Brooklyn elementary schools. Before joining LPBS, Suzanne taught art and cooking at Community Partnership Charter School in Clinton Hill, and served as the Education Director for the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, located in East New York. Suzanne was an adjunct arts instructor at UKA Teacher U, where she also learned her MS in Education. She received her BFA in fine arts with a minor in Art Education from Pratt Institute.
Mya Wilson 1st Grade Teacher
Mya Wilson has joined Leadership Prep after teaching in the New York City Public schools for 6 years. Ms. Wilson taught has both and first and second grade at PS 230 in the South Bronx. While at 230 she was a grade team representative on the schools Staff Consultation Committee for 4 consecutive years. In addition while at PS 230 she served on the School Leadership Team as well as the Data Inquiry team. While on the data inquiry team she analyzed data and researched best practices for English Language learners. Ms. Wilson holds a BA in the Science of Education from Temple University and a Masters in Early Childhood Education from the City College of New York.
Sarah Woodard 4th Grade Teacher
Sarah Woodard is an alumna of Teach For America, where she taught 3rd and 4th grade outside of Phoenix, Arizona and obtained a Master’s in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. She also served as a School Operations Manager for Teach For America’s Phoenix Institute. Prior to joining the world of teaching, Ms. Woodard did client consulting and market research for a division of The Nielsen Company in Chicago, Illinois. She moved from her hometown of Portland, Oregon to attend Washington University in St. Louis, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Minors in Business and French. She looks forward to working with intelligent, driven colleagues, parents, and students at Leadership Prep Bed Stuy.
Naama Wrightman 2nd Grade Teacher
Ms. Wrightman started her teaching career as a DC Teaching Fellow. She taught second and fourth grades at Browne Education Campus. In 2011 she received the DC Public Schools "Highly Effective Teacher Award." Ms. Wrightman has studied abroad in Israel and Bolivia. She holds a B.A. in International Affairs from the George Washington University and an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from American University.
Lauren Young 2nd Grade Lead Teacher
Ms. Young was a 2008 Las Vegas Valley Teach for America corps member and taught 5th grade for 3 years. Previously, Ms. Young received her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University in Public Health and Africana Studies. As an undergraduate student, she focused on public health reform with an emphasis on educating students on nutrition and reforming food options in public schools. While teaching in Las Vegas, she received a Masters of Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Curriculum and Instruction and a Masters in the Art of Teaching from National University.
Maureen Yusuf-Morales 6th Grade History
Ms. Yusuf-Morales received her B.A. in Education and Child Studies from Smith College in 2004. After graduating she taught 6th grade middle school in the West Farms area of the Bronx and later became the Senior Program Director for a college access program, Breakthrough New York for six years. Along with teaching at LPBS Middle Academy she is currently pursuing an MA in educational leadership at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. Ms. Yusuf-Morales is the sixth grade history teacher at LPBS Middle Academy.
